futureFERNS

Woolworths futureFERNS is Netball New Zealand’s official junior netball programme designed especially for young players beginning their netball journey.

At Papakura Netball Centre, futureFERNS focuses on creating a fun, safe and supportive environment where children can learn the game, build confidence and develop fundamental movement and ball skills.

Using a “more balls, more goals, more fun!” approach, the programme is designed to maximise participation and keep young players active and engaged. Sessions include skill development activities, modified games and learning opportunities led by our Junior Netball Coordinators, Coaches and Star Helpers.

The rules, equipment and game formats are adapted to suit each age group and stage of development, helping players progressively build their skills and understanding of the game while developing a lifelong love of netball.

How do I get my child involved?

If your child is interested in playing netball this season, there are a number of ways to get involved at Papakura Netball Centre.

Winter Season

During the winter season, players register through one of our participating schools or clubs. You can view our list of clubs and schools here:

Summer Ferns

During summer, we run our own Summer Ferns programme which allows both full team entries and individual player registrations.

Individual players who register without a team will be placed into a team where possible, providing a great opportunity to learn netball, meet new friends and have fun in a supportive environment.

Winter futureFERNS

Winter futureFERNS at Papakura Netball Centre runs during Terms 2 and 3.

  • Year 1–4: 2nd May – 1st August

  • Year 5–6: 2nd May – 22nd August

Our futureFERNS programme focuses on fun, participation and skill development in a supportive environment where young players can learn and grow their love for netball.

Summer Ferns

Summer Ferns runs from:

  • 14th September – 7th December

Summer Ferns is a great opportunity for new players to get involved and learn the programme in preparation for the following winter season. It is also a fantastic development opportunity for existing players and teams to continue building skills, confidence and combinations ahead of the next season.

Both team entries and individual registrations are available, with individual players placed into teams where possible.
