Gaining Junior Theory qualification is relatively easy – the aspiring umpire should attend at least 1 of the 3 pre season umpire theory classes (register here) which commence in February on Monday nights for 1.5 hours (6.30pm – 8.00pm) – with participants completing the Online Centre Theory Exam at their leisure.

Aspiring umpires who are unable to attend the Pre Season Umpire Classes at Papakura Netball Centre, should sit the Online Centre Theory Exam.   Once successful with the online centre theory exam, newly qualified umpires should print out the certificate which confirms they have passed, and send a copy to the Papakura Netball Centre office.

All online qualified umpires should be encouraged to attend the whistlers classes which also commence in February (register here). These classes are provided for newly qualified umpires to gain some valuable practical knowledge before they take the court as a new umpire in the Presidents Round.

To be assessed for the practical Junior Badge, Umpires with Junior Theory qualification should complete the PNC Umpires Practical Assessment Application form online and make payment to the PNC Office. Upon receipt of the application form, the PNC Umpires Convenor will arrange assessment of that umpire on one or two (or more if warranted) games on  Saturday’s, until the umpire becomes qualified.

Umpires wishing to gain Local Centre Award qualification, should follow the same process as the Junior Badge procedure above, by completing the PNC Umpires Practical Assessment Application form online and make payment to the PNC Office. The Local Centre Award is a ‘practical’ assessment only eg; further theory examination for this qualification is not applicable.
